Candidate Statements (Updated 11-1-24)

Learn where candidates stand on important local issues before the election so you can make an informed decision.

Political candidates can say some outrageous things. Sometimes, those things are even lies, like in the 2020 and 2022 election …

This election cycle, the team at Clayton Watch will listen closely to verify statements made by candidates, and draws precise lines between fact, misleading information, and sometimes pure fiction.

The term of three of our current council members, Jim Diaz, Holly Tillman, and Peter Cloven are set to expire this year.

All three incombents pulled papers to run again, but Peter Cloven failed to turn his papers by the required deadline and has stated publicly that he has dedided not to run for professional and personal reasons.

Other notible names such as Rich Enea,Sr, and Maria Shulman have entered the race, rounding off the field to four candidates running for three open spots on the council.

On August 21, 2024, all the candidates were sent the following email from Clayton Watch congratulating them and inviting them to share their candidate statement with our members and loyal followers.

  1. Sounds like a great idea. After what we experience last election. Our police do not need to be outsourced and the town is not racist.

  2. It appears that our city is not going broke and we now have someone at City Hall that understands numbers.

    1. The only thing going broke appears to be the Clayton Pioneer.

  5. My kids went to school with Holly‘s kids, she’s a troublemaker. Northgate High School is glad to be rid of her.

  7. It's time for Cloven and Tillman to leave their council member roles, vote them out. They performed poorly, did not look out for best interests of our lovely Town. They are troublesome, devisive, lack the skills-knowledge for the council member role.

  8. Peter Cloven is an architect in his professional life. He is also the architect of the single most divisive action ever done by a City Council. 4 years ago, he was the architect of passing over Vice Mayor Wan. He ran the idea past former Council Member Carl Wolfe, and his recently elected friend Holly Tillman and they decided to have Carl Wolfe cut in line and become mayor and Cloven became Vice Mayor his very first year in office and acted like this was an incredibly popular decision. No wonder protestors showed up to his house! His whole time in office was more about him passing judgement on anyone who didn’t agree with him. This isn’t a loss to the City of Clayton, it’s an absolute gain. Peter Cloven isn’t about doing the right thing, he’s all about thinking he is better than all of us. He has NEVER admitted to doing anything wrong. But it looks like he decided not to run because EVERYTHING he did wrong was going to be exposed over and over again. It’s a good day for Clayton today!

    1. Peter is a spineless person. And for him to publicly state that he was liked by everyone is beyond hilarious.

  9. Holly should do the right thing and back out of the election. She is a closet racist and her actions toward this town have shown that; the only thing is her ego won't allow her to bow out gracefully.
