Election Schedule
The General Municipal Election for the City of Clayton is held in November of even-numbered years and coincides with the statewide election.
On June 4, 2024, The Clayton City Council approved Resolution 25-2024 calling for a General Municipal Election on November 5, 2024 and Resolution 26-2024 providing information for voluntary municipal candidate statements.
The next General Municipal Election will be held on November 5, 2024. Clayton voters will have the opportunity to elect:Three (3) Councilmember seats for a four-year term set to expire in 2028
Who Can Run for City Council?
Any member of the public who meets the requirements below may run for public office in the City of Clayton. Candidates must:

1. Be at least eighteen years of age
2. Be a citizen of the United States and a resident of the State of California
3. Be a registered voter of the City of Clayton
4. Have resided continuously in Clayton for at least 30 days immediately preceding the appointment or final filing date for nomination papers.

Registration will be verified before issuance of nomination papers.
Nomination Forms and Fee
Candidates must obtain and complete the official nomination documents that are issued by the Office of the City Clerk. This is done during the official nomination period. Nomination forms are issued at no charge. The filing fee for nomination documents is $25 and due when submitting the forms.
Office hours are Monday through Thursday 9:00am to 5:00pm (closed 12pm-1pm) except for City holidays. Potential candidates must schedule an appointment to pull nomination papers. To schedule an appointment, please contact the City Clerk’s Office at (925) 673-7300 or by email at Elections2024@claytonca.gov.
