This has been one of the most divisive elections in Clayton’s History!
Dear Neighbors: (Important, please read.)
On Tuesday, December 1st the Clayton City Council met and the new council was sworn in, the outgoing councilmembers stepped down, the council was reorganized, and the new mayor was selected. A very NORMAL process historically in Clayton. But not this time around.
The vice mayor has always elevated to Mayor. Never has a vice mayor been passed over for purely political reasons. Well it happened, Carl Wolfe organized a coup (Tillman and Cloven) to take majority control of the council and elevate himself to Mayor, appoint Peter Cloven as vice mayor and threw Vice Mayor Wan under the bus. If you watch this event on Zoom or over the Internet, the plan couldn’t have been more orchestrated, obvious, and scripted. Surely all of this is a Brown Act violation.
He (Carl Wolf) and his squad (Tillman and Cloven) were just so eager for power in our little town . . . they couldn't wait their turn. It appears the lure of power outweighed the ethical thing to do. This surely doesn’t pass the smell test of "Do the Right Thing", “Integrity”, and all the other signs and slogans the city posts as you enter our wonderful small town.
What happened to all the diversity talk during the campaign? We have three ethnic members on the council and none are in leadership positions. Was diversity and inclusivity forgotten or was it just campaign rhetoric.
Comments from both Carl Wolf and Peter Cloven state “they wouldn’t reward and support Jeff Wan as Mayor due to the divisive campaign.” Who appointed Mr. Wolf and Mr. Cloven to be the campaign Gestapos for Clayton??? Unfortunately, politics is a dirty business and these three spineless individuals (Wolf, Cloven, and Tillman) have no right to base their council decisions on divisive campaign rhetoric. They were elected to represent the people of Clayton and need to put petty politics behind them and do the right thing for Clayton.
It is obvious after watching the end of the council meeting, when Carl Wolfe took over as Mayor, he has no clue on how to run a meeting. Remember, he and Peter Cloven have zero experience and are not qualified to lead the city out of this high density mess and other challenging issues Julie Pierce left behind.
On a side note, at his first Mayor’s Conference this past week, it was reported that Carl Wolf embarrassed the town of Clayton when introduced, and insulted all the female mayors and other female officials in attendance with a chauvinistic comment “I’m Just Grateful To Be Here At The BIG BOY Table.” (Clayton, we can do better than this!) With respect to Peter Cloven, he comes across as a nice guy, but is the most disingenuous individual when you see him in action. He fought hard against a high-density project in his neighborhood and won; but didn’t give a damn about the rest of us when it came to voting on the Olivia Project. It looks like his devious politics have infiltrated our small town and needs to be stopped.
These individuals (Wolf, Cloven, and Tillman) have single handedly furthered the divide of our small town. Let’s see if they can do the right thing at the next City Council meeting and reverse their votes and place Jeff Wan as our Mayor, as he rightly should be. Tune in and make you voice heard. https://ci.clayton.ca.us/#meetings. Next meeting to be held Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 7:00 PM.

Carl Wolfe was the worst mayor Clayton has ever had. The guy was a complete clown.
