44% of Clayton Residents Say They Don't Trust Their Elected Officials and 37% Say They Do.According to a recent $30,000 survey, 44% of those surveyed said Clayton elected officials are not trustworthy. Some have tried to imply this would mean 56% of Clayton residents trust their elected officials. However, the survey shows a different result. According to this survey, shown above, only 37% say Clayton’s elected officials can be trusted. 19% are neutral. Based on the survey, it would be equally wrong to imply 63% of Clayton residents don’t trust elected officials. What we know from the survey is 44% don't trust elected officials and 37% do trust elected officials and it exposes a huge trust gap. The bottom line, Clayton’s elected officials have a credibility issue that needs to be addressed. Especially, if they expect voters to support any ballot measure for a parcel tax, including two existing parcel taxes that will have to be renewed in the near future—Landscape Maintenance and the Downtown Park.
