The Candidates Are Set for Clayton City Council
The filing deadline for the Clayton City Council election officially closed at 5:00 p.m. today, Wednesday, August 12.
With the filing period now over, four candidates have stepped forward to serve our community:
• Kim Trupiano — Incumbent City Councilmember
• Maria Shulman
• Charlie Schmidt
• Amy Callaghan
Congratulations to all four candidates for stepping forward and offering their time and service to the City of Clayton.
Running for public office takes commitment, and we appreciate everyone willing to participate in the process.
Now the election season begins. Stay informed, ask questions, and most importantly. . .vote.
Guess you jumped the gun on the Cloven bashing
ReplyDeleteI don't think anyone jumped the gun. He pulled papers to run, so naturally people started looking at his record from when he served on the City Council.
DeleteAfter reading about some of the issues and decisions from his previous term, I can understand why there would have been some tough questions for him to answer.
In the end, he chose not to file. Maybe he simply decided he didn't want to unpack all that baggage again.
Looks like the gun wasn't jumped — Peter just decided not to step into the line of fire. -Janine
DeleteNo one jumped the gun. Cloven is a divisive person. The folks at Clayton Watch didn’t mention him in this article. It looks like they have already moved on. Hopefully no more negative comments about him appear anymore as he is not in this race. He’s out, so let’s forget about him.
DeleteWill CW openly disclose who they support for the two open positions? After all they are a PAC, and that is what PAC's do.
ReplyDeleteClayton Watch does not endorse candidates.
DeleteThat is laughable. CW just reports the facts...right? Nope they are not a news source, they are a PAC
DeleteFacts are facts. Clayton Watch has repeatedly asked anyone who believes something it published is inaccurate to identify the specific information and provide the facts showing what needs to be corrected. I’ll bet they’re still waiting. Criticism is easy. Proving the facts wrong is another matter. Sorry Peter Cloven and the rest of the punch drinkers, sometimes the truth hurts. And sometime you need to learn what trure friends are. The ones you are hanging out with don't fit the bill.
Delete### What Happened to Peter Cloven?
ReplyDeleteOne name noticeably missing from the final list is, former Councilmember Peter Cloven.
Cloven pulled papers to run for City Council but apparently decided not to file them before the deadline.
Perhaps the baggage from his previous time on the City Council was simply too much to defend in another campaign.
A run for office would have meant answering some difficult questions about his past record, his votes, and decisions made while he served on the Council.
Maybe he decided some baggage is better left unpacked.
Or maybe the name #Peteronly was taken. No matter what, he's a clown that won't be missed. -Johnny
DeleteWhat no Cloven? All that hot air and for what? Why pull papers if he never intended to turn in? Then again Cloven posted some diatribe about Clayton Watch only to take it down on Nextdoor. And then we have Killoran who also pulled papers and is intent on making Clayton into Concord. It would have been so much fun if both of these characters had entered the race. Maybe now we can have a normal election. Good riddens Peter Cloven, please don’t bother us with anymore sanctimonious lectures.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to the candidates!
ReplyDeleteClayton is a small city. A $50,000 gap is real money here, and 18 months without a reconciliation is not a clerical lapse, it is the absence of a control. Peter Cloven was a complete failure.
ReplyDeleteIf you read the SF Gate article from this past weekend, you'll notice something interesting.
ReplyDeleteTammie Steiner, Peter Cloven and Holly Tillman appeared determined to challenge Clayton Watch, questioning whether it was properly registered as a Political Action Committee and suggesting that it had spent more money than legally allowed.
Neither claim held up.
The reporter verified that Clayton Watch is, in fact, a registered PAC and found no basis for the claim that it had exceeded the applicable spending limits.
Steiner even challenged Clayton Watch's use of the phrase “Clayton's Most Trusted News Source.” Once again, the reporter checked it out rather than simply accepting the criticism. Strike Three!
People are entitled to dislike Clayton Watch. They're entitled to disagree with what it publishes.
But disagreement is not evidence.
If you're going to make accusations, bring the facts, because a reporter might actually check them. - A Member of the Downtown Business Community.
Yes, that same insane group of people Steiner, Tillman and Cloven are so he'll bent on connecting Shulman to anything they just had the reporter throw her name in the article willie Nellie.. I've looked into the PAC’s paperwork and if the reporter had done her due diligence she should have to, there is no connection to Shulman other than the delusion of the 3 stooges. The 3 Stooges don't like that they have no control over her. Three of the biggest frauds, ego maniacs that have ever lived. Losers, all three! Downtown business owner.
DeleteGood luck Kim Trupiano, Maria Shulman, Charlie Schmidt, and Amy Callaghan.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to Jim Killeran??? Someone told me he moved to Concord.
ReplyDeleteWatch the zany comments and “endorsements” he will give and take back depending on who he is trying to befriend over the next few weeks. According to his own ego, he is more important than anyone else because he got a bunch of likes on a Nextdoor post once. And did you know he worked at Chevron? That makes him an expert in EVERYTHING!
DeleteJim's a nice guy. Let's move on.
DeleteJim K thinks he is an expert on everything, but it is all talk and no substance. He is now going to use all his so called expertise to fight the sales tax measure that he has supported for years. He flops around more than a fish out of water. Can’t trust anything he says.
DeleteThank you CW for the email notifying me of this announcement. Kathy & Walter
